The Library of the College of Petroleum and Mining Engineering – A Beacon of Knowledge Advancing the Goals of Sustainable Development

Under the close follow-up and direct supervision of the Dean of the College of Petroleum and Mining Engineering, Assistant Professor Dr. Moan Hassan Abdullah, and through the outstanding efforts of the college library staff, development work within the library continues in preparation for welcoming students and researchers at the start of the new academic year. Over 1,400 books have been cataloged electronically within an integrated database, and the global Koha Library Management System has been implemented to facilitate lending, searching, and cataloging processes.
Additionally, an electronic records system has been activated alongside the traditional paper-based system to ensure data accuracy and service integration. Reading halls have been prepared to provide a suitable study environment that meets the needs of students and researchers. The staff has also been trained in using the Koha system to ensure the provision of library services according to the highest standards. The library’s content has been expanded with new scientific resources in the fields of Refining Engineering, Reservoir Engineering, and Mining Engineering, alongside the provision of technical support and direct assistance.
These efforts are aligned with the achievement of the fourth goal of the Sustainable Development Goals: ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all. This is realized through improving access to knowledge resources and providing a modern, efficient educational environment for students and researchers daily. The ultimate aim is to elevate the library’s status to that of the world’s leading academic libraries.
