Scientific Field Visit to the Wadi Kli Zanta Area

Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Petroleum and Mining Engineering, Assistant Professor Dr. Ma’n Hassan Abdullah Al-Majid, a scientific field visit was conducted on the morning of Thursday, 6 November 2025, to the Wadi Kli Zanta area in Aqrah District, Dohuk Governorate, with the participation of fourth-year students from the Department of Petroleum and Refining Engineering.

The visit aimed to familiarize students with the geological formations of the region and provide hands-on exposure to geodynamic processes responsible for the formation of faults, folds, and shale oil. Students also examined surface oil seepages, the relationship between groundwater movement and petroleum migration, and their combined effects on fluid flow within formations and the development of hydrocarbon traps.

This field visit comes as part of the college’s efforts to enhance practical and applied learning, develop students’ skills in field analysis and geological interpretation, and contribute to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure).
