Towards a mining and oil industry that respects people and the environment

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Petroleum and Mining Engineering, Assistant Professor Dr. Ma’an Hassan Al-Majid, the Human Rights Division at the University Presidency, in cooperation with the Human Rights Unit at the College of Petroleum and Mining Engineering, and in partnership with the High Commission for Human Rights / Nineveh Office, organized a scientific workshop entitled:
“Towards a mining and oil industry that respects people and the environment.”

This workshop comes ضمن the University of Mosul’s commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), by promoting awareness of human rights and linking them to industrial practices in the oil and mining sectors.

The workshop lectures were delivered by Dr. Nagham Luqman, Director of Publishing, Awareness, and Training at the High Commission for Human Rights, who highlighted the environmental impacts of mining and oil industries. She emphasized the importance of protecting human rights and safeguarding the rights of workers and local communities. She also shed light on the concept of sustainability in resource management, the role of modern technologies in reducing pollution, and the need to comply with environmental regulations and strengthen social responsibility to achieve balanced and sustainable development.
