PhD thesis (Building a cross-sectional model for selecting football players)

The College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences discussed a doctoral thesis on “Building a Cross-Sectional Model for the Selection of Football Players” on Thursday, April 24, 2025. Professor Nibras Younis Muhammed, Dean of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, and a number of faculty members attended the discussion. The thesis, presented by student Omar Zuhair Ahmed, focused on providing a scientific, data-based model for selecting football players. The focus is on identifying the required characteristics for each age group and identifying talents through analyzing physical, functional, skill, physical, mental, and psychological aspects. This contributes to raising the level of athletic performance in the long term and better preparing players to participate in sporting competitions at the highest levels. The study also aimed to identify the most important determinants and variables in selecting athletic talents in football, according to the stages of athletic selection for talented football players. It also aimed to develop a model for selecting athletic talents according to the stages of athletic selection for football players, and to develop tables and standard levels for selecting athletic talents according to the stages of athletic selection for players. The discussion committee was chaired by Professor Dr. Dhurgham Jassim Muhammed, and included Professor Dr. Walid Khaled Rajab, Professor Dr. Subhan Mahmoud Ahmed, Professor Dr. Hassan Ali Hussein, and Professor Dr. Ahmed Hazem Ahmed, under the supervision and membership of Professor Dr. Makki Mahmoud Hussein.
