Workshop on the academic role in strengthening community resilience to prevent violent extremism

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Wahid Mahmood Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, and under the supervision and attendance of Professor Dr. Nibras Younis Mohammed Al-Murad, Dean of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, the Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Center for Peacebuilding and Peaceful Coexistence at the University of Mosul, held a training workshop on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, entitled “The Academic Role in Promoting Community Resilience to Prevent Violent Extremism.” The workshop was presented by Professor Dr. Fathi Mahmood Fathi, Director of the Center for Peacebuilding and Peaceful Coexistence at the University of Mosul. It addressed key themes surrounding the importance of the academic role in countering violent extremism, with a focus on clarifying concepts and terminology related to preventive mechanisms. It also included case studies that shed light on strategies for dealing with this phenomenon.
The workshop aimed to enhance the preventive aspect among participants regarding countering extremism, while also developing the skills necessary to transform knowledge into practical behavior that promotes peaceful coexistence and acceptance of others. The workshop was moderated by Dr. Susan Marwan Bashir, who facilitated the rich dialogue and discussions among the participants, contributing to enhancing academic and practical understanding of this vital topic.
