Data and Informatics Division

The Data and Informatics Division is one of the principal divisions within the Department of Studies and Planning. It plays a fundamental role in the collection, organization, management, and analysis of institutional data and information related to the University of Mosul’s academic, administrative, and research activities. Through these functions, the Division contributes to providing accurate, reliable, and timely information that supports strategic planning and informed decision-making.

The Division is responsible for developing and continuously updating institutional databases, standardizing data sources, and preparing indicators, statistics, and analytical reports. It also contributes to the development of information visualization tools and digital dashboards, thereby supporting digital transformation, institutional governance, and the efficiency of planning, monitoring, and evaluation processes across the University.

1. Collection and Updating of Institutional Data

  • Collecting data and information related to colleges, departments, centers, and university units in coordination with the relevant authorities.
  • Identifying the data required for planning, monitoring, reporting, and statistical purposes.
  • Monitoring the regular updating of data and ensuring comprehensive coverage of the University’s various activities.
  • Organizing data according to standardized classifications that facilitate searching, retrieval, and analysis.
  • Following up on the completion of data submitted by the University’s various units and addressing missing or duplicated information.

2. Database and Information Management

  • Establishing and managing databases covering academic, administrative, research, financial, and service-related indicators.
  • Organizing and continuously updating the University of Mosul’s central institutional databases.
  • Working to standardize data structures and data-entry mechanisms across the University’s various units.
  • Integrating related datasets to provide a comprehensive overview of the University’s performance.
  • Establishing clear mechanisms for archiving, preserving, and retrieving data when required.

3. Data and Statistical Analysis

  • Analyzing university data and generating statistical indicators required to support decision-making.
  • Preparing statistics on students, academic staff, academic programs, graduates, research output, and other institutional indicators.
  • Conducting comparative and longitudinal analyses to measure developments in the University’s performance.
  • Analyzing trends and patterns in data and drawing conclusions that support future planning.
  • Providing the data and analytical insights required for the preparation of strategic and operational plans.

4. Reports and Performance Indicators

  • Preparing periodic statistical reports on various University activities.
  • Developing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and monitoring levels of achievement.
  • Providing data required for institutional and annual reports.
  • Preparing reports requested by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and other relevant official authorities.
  • Supporting the preparation of reports related to university rankings, academic accreditation, quality assurance, and sustainable development.
  • Developing indicators that assist senior management in evaluating performance and making appropriate decisions.

5. Development of Digital Dashboards and Information Visualization

  • Designing and developing interactive dashboards to present university indicators in a clear, accessible, and user-friendly manner.
  • Transforming data and statistics into charts and visualizations that facilitate the interpretation of information and support decision-making.
  • Developing monitoring dashboards tailored to the needs of senior management and the Department of Studies and Planning.
  • Enabling regular monitoring of indicators and comparison of results across academic years, colleges, and university units.
  • Contributing to the development of an information environment that supports data-driven decision-making.

6. Data Quality Assurance

  • Verifying the accuracy, validity, and completeness of data before its official adoption.
  • Establishing unified standards and controls for data quality.
  • Identifying and correcting duplicated or inconsistent data in coordination with the relevant authorities.
  • Monitoring data sources and verifying their reliability.
  • Establishing mechanisms for the periodic review and auditing of databases.

7. Digital Transformation and Informatics

  • Supporting digital transformation initiatives in the management of university data and information.
  • Reducing reliance on paper-based procedures through the development of electronic solutions.
  • Working towards automating data collection, management, processing, and analysis.
  • Integrating the Division’s activities with the approved electronic systems used by the University.
  • Proposing technological solutions that enhance the efficiency of information management.

8. Supporting Decision-Making and Strategic Planning

  • Providing senior management with the data and indicators required for informed decision-making.
  • Supporting the Department of Studies and Planning in preparing strategic and operational plans.
  • Providing information required to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and challenges.
  • Preparing analyses that contribute to identifying the University’s future needs.
  • Monitoring plan implementation indicators and assessing levels of achievement.

9. Coordination with University Units

  • Maintaining continuous coordination with colleges, departments, centers, and other units to obtain the required data.
  • Defining responsibilities for data entry and updating in coordination with the relevant authorities.
  • Providing technical support and guidance on data collection and preparation procedures.
  • Standardizing data collection forms and statistical templates wherever possible.
  • Addressing issues related to data exchange and information sharing among the University’s various units.

10. Information Security and Data Privacy

  • Ensuring the confidentiality and protection of institutional data and information against unauthorized access or use.
  • Defining appropriate access levels to databases and information in accordance with administrative authorities and permissions.
  • Coordinating with specialized units in the areas of information security and data protection.
  • Implementing appropriate procedures for data preservation and backup.
  • Complying with approved regulations and guidelines concerning the confidentiality and protection of university data and information.

11. Supporting University Rankings and Academic Accreditation

  • Providing the data and indicators required for participation in local and international university rankings.
  • Preparing and compiling data related to institutional and academic performance indicators.
  • Supporting colleges and university units in providing the data required for accreditation and quality assurance processes.
  • Monitoring indicators that influence the University’s ranking and standing.
  • Developing databases that facilitate the monitoring and comparison of the University’s performance with that of other universities.

12. Supporting Sustainable Development

  • Providing data and indicators related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • Collecting and documenting the University’s achievements and initiatives related to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Preparing the indicators and statistics required to assess the University’s contribution to achieving the SDGs.
  • Supporting the preparation of sustainability reports and university ranking submissions in this area.
  • Developing dedicated databases covering initiatives, research, activities, and partnerships related to sustainable development.

13. Staff Development and Capacity Building

  • Organizing workshops and training programs for staff involved in data collection, management, and analysis.
  • Promoting a data-driven culture across the University.
  • Training staff in the use of statistical analysis and data visualization tools.
  • Enhancing staff competencies in the preparation of reports, performance indicators, and digital dashboards.

14. Development and Modernization of Information Services

  • Monitoring emerging developments in business intelligence, data analytics, big data, and artificial intelligence.
  • Proposing the adoption of advanced technologies for analyzing university data.
  • Developing methods of information presentation in accordance with the needs of university management and decision-makers.
  • Exploring the potential use of predictive models to support future planning.
  • Working towards establishing an integrated information environment that contributes to the continuous development of institutional performance at the University of Mosul.
