Regional Studies Center at the University of Mosul held its first meeting of the 2026/2027 academic year, on Sunday, September 6, 2026, as part of its early preparations for the new research year and its efforts to strengthen the Center’s role as a platform for research and analysis of regional issues.

The meeting included a comprehensive review of the previous year’s research plan, including an assessment of research completion rates, an examination of the reasons behind delays in completing some studies and publishing them in internationally recognized academic databases, as well as a review of the status of research partnerships and collaboration with academic institutions and research centers.

The Board also discussed restructuring the Center’s Council and appointing new members in a move aimed at broadening scientific participation and revitalizing research activity. It also reviewed the research plan for 2026/2027 and outlined more effective mechanisms for its implementation.

The meeting underscored the importance of expanding researchers’ international academic engagement, building more effective research partnerships, and improving the quality of scholarly output and international publications, thereby strengthening the Regional Studies Center’s presence at both the regional and international levels.

These efforts form part of the Center’s broader approach to moving beyond simply implementing research plans toward measuring their academic impact and expanding the presence of Iraqi researchers in regional and international research circles.
