Master’s thesis discussing the role of ascorbic acid in the development and growth of Helianthus annuus L. sunflower callus under the influence of salt stress.

On Monday, January 10, 2022, the College of Science at the University of Mosul discussed a master’s thesis entitled “The Role of Ascorbic Acid in the Development and Growth of Helianthus annuus L. under the influence of salt stress.” Part of it was attended by the Administrative Assistant, Dr. Omar Adel Sharif, on behalf of the Dean of the College Assistant Professor Dr. Hiyam Adel Al-Taii and a number of the department’s teachers. The study presented by the student (Shaimaa Mohamed Sultan) from the Department of Biology / Plant Branch, dealt with the effect of sodium chloride salt, ascorbic acid in different concentrations and the interaction between them on the development and growth of sunflower callus. The results showed that salt treatment led to a varying decrease in the physiological and chemical callus growth indicators depending on the added salt concentration, while treatment with ascorbic acid led to an increase in the rate of those indicators. The addition of ascorbic acid to the callus growth media and its interaction with sodium chloride had positive effects in increasing these components in the callus tissues compared to the salinity treatment. The results showed that there were genetic variations in callus for different treatments depending on the presence and size of the multiplicative bundles using the RAPD technique. Soaking sunflower seeds with sodium chloride and ascorbic acid and the interaction between them had clear effects on the growth indicators of sunflower plants (field experiment). The discussion committee was chaired by Assistant Professor Dr. Raed Salem Ahmed, Head of the Department, and the membership of Assistant Professor Hikmat Mustafa and Assistant Professor Rana Tariq, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Sajida Aziz Aboud. The Administrative Assistant, on behalf of the Dean of the College of Sciences, Assistant Professor Dr. Hiam Adel Ibrahim, presented a letter of thanks and appreciation to Assistant Professor Dr. Hikmat Mustafa / Koya University; To incur the trouble of traveling and attending the student’s discussion
