Workshop on seismic refraction survey and its role in shallow depth geological investigations
Under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Prof. Dr. Kossay Kamal Al-Din Al-Ahmady, and the supervision of the Honorable Mrs. Dean of the College of Sciences, Assistant Professor Dr. Hiyam Adel Al-Taii, this morning, Wednesday, January 26, 2022, a scientific workshop was held under the title ((Seismic Refractive Survey and its Role in shallow-depth geological investigations)), delivered by: lecturer Dr. Bashar Mahmoud Aziz, and the Lecturer Zainab Mosaddeq Najib, in addition to an Assistant lecturer Uday Younis Aziz, from the Dams and Water Resources Research Center. The workshop aimed to provide a theoretical brief on the principles and method of refractive survey at shallow depths, and to practice the use of geophysical devices in terms of spreading geophones and cables, generating seismic waves, operating the devices, and then recording seismic waves through the implementation of shallow refractive seismic survey in the Department of Geology. The workshop included a practical part of the method of spreading geophones and how to use the devices in collecting the results of recording those waves. It was attended by the head of the Department of Geology, Dr. Zaid Abdel Wahab Malik, and several Lecturers and students of the department.
