A scientific trip to the Mosul Dam station
In implementation of the directives of the Dean of the College of Sciences, Prof. Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim, and the follow-up of the Head of the Department of New and Renewable Energies, Assistant Professor Dr. Asim Ahmed Issa. On Thursday, May 19, 2022, the Department of New and Renewable Energies organized for the third and fourth stage students a scientific trip to the Mosul Dam station to consolidate the theoretical information that the students received during the academic year with its practical reality. The lake, the height of the dam, how to avoid floods and the rise in water levels in winter and spring, and the measures taken to avoid that. Then, during their scientific tour, the students and professors were briefed on many facilities of the dam project, which included the working mechanism of the water station that generates electric power for most of the governorates of Iraq, as well as the components of the water station, including turbines and generating systems used for this purpose. The dam’s members also thankfully provided a detailed explanation of the infrastructure of the dam’s body, the systems and mechanism of injection and filling, and the reasons for doing them periodically to preserve the structure of the dam.
