Master thesis discusses the role of snoRNA and miRNA-424 genes in the regulation of the DNMT1 methylation gene in prostate cancer patients

On Sunday, September 14, 2025, the Department of Biology sciences at the College of Sciences of the University of Mosul presented a master’s thesis entitled ” Evaluation of the role of snoRNA and miRNA-424 genes in regulating the expression of the DNMT1 methylation gene in males with prostate cancer” by student Ahmed Rajab Hussein Ahmed from the branch of Zoology.
The study involved the evaluation of non-coding ribosomal nucleic acids (ncRNAs) and their role in influencing the DNMT1 methylation gene in people with prostate cancer, using advanced molecular techniques. The study also examined the effect of the methylation process on genes associated with the disease, the possibility of adopting free DNA (cfDNA) and non-coding nucleic acids as biomarkers for early detection and help guide targeted treatment plans.
Genetic sequencing and genetic analysis of positive samples were performed, methylated gene sequences were recorded and compared with the data recorded in the database of the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI).
The purpose of this thesis is to shed light on the role of non-coding RNA and methylation genes in the development of prostate cancer, and to study the genetic variations of the methylation gene that are among the factors influencing the development of the disease, focusing on the possibility of relying on these indicators in early diagnosis and molecular-based therapeutic intervention.
The themes of this study are also consistent with the Sustainable Development Goals of:
- The third goal (good health and well-being).
- The ninth goal (industry, innovation and infrastructure) .
- Goal XVII (holding partnerships to achieve the goals).
The discussion Committee was chaired by Assistant Professor Dr. Saad Ghanem Saleh, and the membership of:
- Assistant professor Dr. Talal Sabhan Saleh .
- Assistant professor Dr. Thaer Mohammed Hassan .
- Under the supervision and membership of Prof. Dr. Owais Moufak Hamed.
On behalf of the dean of the College of science, prof. Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim, the head of the Department of Biology sciences, professor Dr. Amjad Abdul Hadi, presented a letter of thanks and appreciation to assistant professor Dr. Saad Ghanem Saleh from Al-Hadba University, in appreciation of his scientific efforts and his active participation in the discussion of the thesis.
Our wishes to our dear students continued success and success
