Scientific workshop on ” applications of chemistry to support the Sustainable Development Goals”

Under the patronage of the president of the University of Mosul, prof. Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Brahimi, and under the supervision of the dean of the College of science, prof. Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim al – Taie, and in cooperation with the presidency of the University-Department of studies and Planning / Sustainable Development Unit, the Department of new and renewable energies organized a scientific workshop entitled: “Applications of Physical Chemistry and analytical chemistry to support the goals of sustainable development”, on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 in the Ibn Sina Hall of the Department, under the follow-up of the head of the Department, Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Munir Suhail.
The workshop was presented by : Assistant Professor Dr. Lamia Adnan sarsem, lecture Maymuna Khaled Qasem .
The workshop included an introduction to the role of Physical Chemistry and analytical chemistry in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals approved by the United Nations in 2015, which represent a global blueprint for ensuring a healthy and sustainable environment.
Dr. Maymouna touched upon the applications of Physical Chemistry in clean energy, batteries, solar cells, water treatment and Pollution Control, in order to serve sustainable development goals 3, 6, 7, 9 and 13.
While Dr. Lamia presented examples of analytical chemistry applications in pollutant screening, waste control, food quality assessment, industrial materials analysis and clean energy, supporting goals 2, 3, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14 and 15.
The workshop stressed that analytical and physical chemistry is an essential pillar for monitoring the health of the environment, climate, water and food, and enables decision makers to take deliberate scientific steps to ensure a sustainable future for future generations.
We wish good luck to all participants and organizers of this important scientific event.
