Master thesis discusses the immunological characteristics of the development of colon cancer in the city of Mosul

The Department of Biology sciences at the College of science at the University of Mosul discussed the tagged master’s thesis
(Immunological characteristics of the development of colon cancer in the Mosul city)،
And that’s on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.
The dean of the College of science, prof. Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim, the head of the department, and a number of department teachers attended part of the discussion.
The dissertation, submitted by student Heba Abdulkader from the microbiology branch, dealt with the study of a set of immunological, inflammatory and genetic indicators associated with the development of colorectal cancer, through analyzing the levels of the cancer indicator CEA, measuring autoantibodies against the enzyme ALDH1B1 auto-Ab, in addition to estimating the gene expression of the CXCL12 gene, and following up a number of immunological and hematological variables through various stages of tumor progression.
The study showed the possibility of adopting ALDH1B1 auto-Ab as a new diagnostic indicator measured in blood samples, which helps in assessing the burden of cancer stem cells inside the tumor, and enhances the accuracy of immunodiagnostics. The message also aimed to understand the relationship between immunological and genetic indicators and the severity of the disease, which will contribute to supporting future diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
During the discussion session, the dean of the College of Science, Prof. Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim, presented a book of thanks and appreciation to assistant professor Dr. Zaid Nabil Elijah in recognition of his scientific efforts and outstanding academic contribution.
The discussion Committee was chaired by Dr. Esra Ghanem Hazem, with the membership of assistant professor Dr. Zaid Nabil Elia, teacher Dr. Zahra Khairuddin, and under the supervision and membership of assistant professor Dr. Rojan Ghanem Mohammed.
