Discussion of a master’s thesis at the College of science at the University of Mosul on the synthesis of new compounds derived from New Tri-4-aminotriazole

The tagged master’s thesis was discussed at the Department of Chemistry at the College of Science / University of Mosul, today, Sunday, December 7, 2025:

«Synthesis and Molecular Docking Study of Some New Heterocyclic Compounds and Schiff Bases from New Tri-4-aminotriazole Derivatives»

Submitted by student Suha khudeida Khalaf.

Assistant professor Dr. Firas Ahmed, head of the Department of chemistry, attended part of the discussion session, along with a number of department teachers and graduate students.

The thesis dealt with the synthesis of new compounds based on the reflexology (escalation) technique, as the study included the preparation of a set of Schiff bases and a number of heterocyclic compounds derived from New Tri-4-aminotriazole.

The output formulas were determined based on their physical properties and spectral data using FTIR, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR techniques.

The work included four main tracks:

  • The first path: preparation of compounds of Schiff bases.
  • The second path: preparation of tetrazole compounds.
  • The third path: the preparation of oxazepine and oxazepan compounds.
  • The fourth path: preparation of azetidienone compounds based on Schiff bases.

The study also included research on molecular docking of all prepared compounds, where a number of them showed high efficacy against HER2 and PIK3 enzymes responsible for activating cancer cells, especially in breast cancer, indicating the possibility of adopting these compounds as promising drug candidates for inhibiting these enzymes.

The discussion committee consisted of:

  • Professor Dr. Shirin Rashid Mohammed-Chairman
  • Professor Dr. Yasser Shakib Mohammed Yahya-member
  • Assistant professor Dr. Mounira Youssef Raouf Aladdin-member

Under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ammar Hussein Abdullah Al-Sabawi.

At the end of the discussion session, on behalf of the dean of the College of science, professor Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim, the head of the Department of chemistry, assistant professor Dr. Firas Ahmed, presented a letter of thanks and appreciation to Professor Dr. Shirin Rashid / College of science / Zakho University in appreciation of his scientific efforts and active participation in the discussion of the thesis.
