Scientific visit of students of the Department of Medical Physics to the medical and Therapeutic Research Center

In accordance with the directives of the president of the University of Mosul, professor Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Ibrahim, and under the supervision and guidance of the dean of the College of science, professor Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim, and the follow-up of the head of the Department of medical physics, professor Dr. Mahmoud Ahmed Mohamed Fakhri, the attention of the Faculty of Science the Department of medical physics organized a scientific visit for students of the fourth stage of the evening study to the medical and Therapeutic Research Center on Thursday, December 5, 2025، They were accompanied by a number of department teachers, in order to get acquainted with the latest diagnostic and therapeutic devices used in the medical field of oncology and to understand their mechanisms of action and clinical applications, where they were briefed on the CT Scan Simulation device, the treadmill device and the linear accelerator device (CT Scan) and their stages of work, the mechanisms of dose simulation and the procedures followed to ensure the quality of imaging and patient safety. The staff responsible for the CT Scan Simulation and the treadmill gave the students the opportunity to understand the mechanism of selecting the layer thickness, adjusting the attenuation Coefficient, identifying technical parameters such as kVp and mAs and their direct role in image quality and radiation dose. The staff kindly explained how to give the therapeutic dose in the linear accelerator device to cancer patients in front of the students and learn how to calculate the dose and give it to patients. During the visit, it was also pointed out the importance of applying the ALARA principle to reduce the radiation dose, the use of bulletproof vests for workers and the use of bulletproof and concrete rooms to contain radiation.
We wish good luck, success and better opportunities to our young students.
