Under the patronage of the president of the University of Mosul, Prof. Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Brahimi, and under the supervision of the dean of the College of Science, Prof. Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim al-Taie, and the follow-up of the head of the department, Dr. Omar khalouk Mohammed Sajid, the Department of Geology and petroleum Sciences organized a workshop entitled ” The use of geophysical methods in archaeological investigation ” on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, to be presented by :

• Assistant professor Dr. Bashar Aziz Mahmoud .
• Assistant teacher Adi Younis Aziz .
• Assistant teacher Ali Zuhair Abdulkader .

The workshop included giving a brief idea about the meaning of antiquities and the importance of antiquities in learning about the development of mankind as well as identifying the cultural heritage of peoples, the workshop also touched on the importance of geophysical exploration of various types in investigating the buried monuments under the surface of the earth without damaging these monuments, as well as making two-and three-dimensional Geophysical maps through which determine the location of the monuments and their depths, and the lecturers made some recommendations related to how to obtain the most accurate results when conducting geophysical surveys in search of Antiquities .
