Seminar at the Department of Geology and petroleum Sciences on ostracoda, stratigraphy and paleogeography of the Ibrahim formation in Kirkuk

Under the patronage of the dean of the College of Science, Prof. Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim al-Taie, and in the presence of the head of the Department of Geology and petroleum Sciences, Dr. Omar khalouk Mohammed Sajid, a seminar was held presented by master’s student Dima Nashwan Jamil al-Balish, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Nasreen Malallah Aziz, entitled:
“Ostracoda, paleostratigraphy and paleogeography of the Ibrahim formation (upper Oligocene) at Bir khabaz 41-Kirkuk, north-eastern Iraq”
The seminar was held on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, in the presence of a number of department teachers and graduate students.
The study dealt with:
- Diagnosis and comparison of ostracoda genera and species within the upper Oligocene sequences of the Ibrahim formation with the Khabbaz field.
- The study of the stratigraphic distribution of ostracoda species.
- Determination of the conditions of the Paleoenvironment of the Abraham formation and the paleogeography of the region.
- Analysis of the nature of ancient marine communications by studying the biological relationships of ostracoda species.
In conclusion, the Deanship of the College of science wishes all the college ‘s teachers and students continued success and scientific brilliance.
