Scientific workshop on medicinal plants and their role in achieving sustainability and the green economy

Under the patronage of the president of the University of Mosul, Prof. Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Brahimi, and under the supervision of the dean of the College of Science, Prof. Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim al-Taie, and within the continuing education activities; the Department of biology sciences at the College of Science / University of Mosul held a scientific workshop entitled ” medicinal plants and sustainability… from biodiversity conservation to green economy ” on Thursday, December 18, 2025, in the Hall of Mahmoud Haj Qasim, and in the presence of a number of teachers and students of the College of science.
The lectures of the workshop were delivered by: Assistant Prof. Dr. Alaa Hussein Ali, M.M. Ashraf Mohammed Hamid, Assistant L. Hiba fares Hamad, Assistant L. Nuralhuda Ahmed Mohamed Taher, Assistant L. Fadia Noureddine said, Assistant L. Safwan Jassim Sultan.
The workshop discussed the importance of medicinal plants from environmental, health and economic aspects, and their role in preserving biodiversity and protecting ecosystems, while highlighting the risks of unsustainable exploitation and the need to adopt rational agricultural and investment methods. They also discussed the relationship between medicinal plants and the green economy, the importance of scientific research and biotechnologies in developing their uses, and supporting the role of local communities in protecting and benefiting from them in a sustainable manner.
