Workshop entitled “Applications of solid state physics in modern technology”.

Under the patronage of the president of the University of Mosul, professor Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Brahimi, and under the supervision and follow – up of the dean of the College of science, professor Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim al-Taie, in cooperation with the presidency of the University of Mosul-Department of studies and Planning /Sustainable Development Unit. The Department of new and renewable energies at the College of science organized a scientific workshop entitled “Applications of solid state physics in modern technology “.

The workshop was held on Monday morning, December 22, 2025 at the Avicenna Hall in the Department.

The workshop was presented by teacher Zahra Badie Ibrahim al-Dabbagh.

The workshop started with the definition of solid-state physics, which is a branch of physics that is interested in studying the properties of solids in terms of crystal structure, electrons, phonons, magnetism and others. Its importance lies in the fact that it is the basis for understanding and designing most modern materials and technologies.

Solid-state physics is one of the fundamental pillars of contemporary science, as it is concerned with studying the physical properties of solids in terms of their atomic and electronic structure. These studies have contributed to a scientific and technical revolution that has formed the basis for most modern technological developments. From semiconductors, which are the basis for the manufacture of computers and smartphones, to solar cells, which provide a clean source of energy, from superconducting materials used in the medical and industrial fields, to nanotechnologies that have made a quantum leap in electronics, medicine and materials science.

This workshop seeks to shed light on the most important applications of solid-state physics and highlight its pivotal role in driving scientific and technological innovation towards a more advanced and sustainable future .

We wish good luck to all participants and organizers of this important scientific event.
