College of science organizes a training course on Paleontology and sustainable development

Under the patronage of the president of the University of Mosul, Prof. Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Brahimi, and under the supervision of the dean of the College of Science, Prof. Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim, and within the continuing education courses, the Department of Geology and petroleum sciences at the College of science organized a training course entitled:

“Paleontology in the service of sustainable development: from studying the past to building the future”

This was done on Sunday, December 21, 2025, for four days, in the presence of the head of the department, Dr. Omar khalouq Mohammed Sajid, and a number of department teachers and graduate students.

The course included three scientific lectures, which dealt with the role of Paleontology in understanding the history of life, environmental and climate changes, and its importance in supporting the Sustainable Development Goals, especially Climate Action (goal 13), through the study of fossil records of ancient organisms.

At the end of the course, the college confirmed its keenness to support scientific activities that contribute to linking academic research with sustainability issues and community service.
