Workshop on ” metamorphic processes and their impact on the porosity of rocks “

Under the patronage of the president of the University of Mosul, professor Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Brahimi, and under the supervision and follow-up of the dean of the College of science, professor Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim al-Taie, and within the continuing education courses at our college, the Department of Geology and petroleum Sciences held a training workshop entitled (metamorphic processes and their impact on the porosity of rocks ) in cooperation with the College of petroleum engineering and mining on December 29, 2025, attended by a number of professors of the department and graduate students, the workshop included three lectures :

The first one was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Saddam Issa Mustafa and included the most important metamorphic processes and their impact on porosity. The metamorphic processes are the physical and chemical changes that occur on sediments after their deposition and during their transformation into sedimentary rocks. before reaching the metamorphic stage, these processes have a direct impact on the porosity and permeability of rocks such as compression, Cementation, melting, and dilution.

The second lecture was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Ammar Ramadan Ali / College of Petroleum and mining engineering and included the definition of porosity, which is the ratio of voids in the rock to the total volume of the rock. Porosity reflects the fluid storage capacity of the reservoir and is usually expressed in percent (%). Porosity can be classified in several ways, depending on the origin and how the pores are interconnected .

Finally, the third lecture was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Radwan Khalil Haider and included linking the conversion processes to oil and gas reservoirs, which is very important because the quality of the reservoir depends mainly on the porosity and permeability resulting from these processes .

We wish all our faculty teachers good luck and scientific brilliance .
