A scientific research was published in a journal within the second quarter (Q2) of a teaching from the College of science

In a new scientific achievement to be added to the research tender record of the College of science, teaching Nidal Ali Mohammed from the Department of Medical Physics published a solid scientific research in a scientific journal classified within the second quarter (Q2) and CiteScore (5.5) and impact factor (3.3), reflecting the quality of research and its scientific importance.

The research was entitled ” Assessment of radiation risks in the soil of Sinjar district in Nineveh Governorate – Iraq ” .

The research dealt with the assessment of natural radionuclide concentrations in soil samples from the Sinjar region using a Kama ray spectrometer equipped with NAI(Tl) detector, where the results showed that the concentrations of radium-226, Thorium-232 and potassium-40 fall within the recommended global limits. A number of important radiation indicators were also calculated, such as radium equivalent, absorbed dose rate, annual effective doses, internal and external hazard indicators and gamma index, all of which came within the internationally approved safe limits, which indicates that the level of radiation exposure in the studied area is within acceptable safety standards.

The research also included an advanced statistical analysis, including correlation coefficients and analysis of the main components, which showed that more than 89% of the data variation can be explained by the relationships between radionuclides, contributing to a deeper understanding of radiation patterns and environmental hazards in the Sinjar soil, and is an important basis for developing future environmental and health policies.

We wish our teachers continuous excellence and scientific giving, and more research achievements that raise the name of the Faculty of Science and the University of Mosul in international academic forums.
