The scene of seminars in the Department of Chemistry-College of science

The Department of Chemistry at the of College Science / University of Mosul witnessed, on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, the holding of two seminars for doctoral students in the specialty of biochemistry, in the presence of a number of professors of the department and graduate students, within the framework of supporting scientific and research activities in the Department.

The first seminar was presented by PhD student Osama Yunus Hamed entitled:

“Isolation and molecular study of ferroportin levels in hemodialysis patients and its relationship with some biochemical variables”

Under the supervision of assistant professor Dr. Iman Adel Hadi, the study aimed to measure the levels of Ferroportin-1 protein in the blood serum of dialysis patients and compare them with healthy ones, with conducting molecular analyses of the protein and gene, in addition to partial isolation of the protein and studying the effect of some drugs on it, on a sample of 90 dialysis patients and 90 healthy people during the period 2024-2025.

The second seminar was presented by PhD student ASR Ihsan Abdullah entitled:

“Estimation of protein-like meteorin for patients with atherosclerosis”

Under the supervision of assistant professor Dr. Saba Zaki Mahmoud, the study dealt with estimating the level of Meteorin-like protein as a vital indicator of atherosclerosis, indicating its relationship with the biochemical variables associated with the disease, in addition to attempts to isolate and purify it and determine its approximate molecular weight, as well as conducting a molecular study to assess the levels of gene expression.

These seminars are part of the Department’s efforts to promote sound scientific research and develop the skills of graduate students in presenting and discussing their research projects in accordance with academic standards.

We wish our dear students success in their scientific and research career.
