Workshop entitled ” chemical contaminants for food”

Under the patronage of the president of the University of Mosul, professor Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Brahimi, and under the supervision of the dean of the College of science, professor Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim, and the follow-up of the head of the Department of new and renewable energies, assistant professor Dr. Ahmed Munir Suhail, the Department of new and renewable energies held on Wednesday morning, January 14, 2026 the activities of the scientific workshop, which came within the activities of continuing education in the Department
The workshop dealt with the introduction of chemical contamination of food, which occurs when a dangerous or toxic food substance reaches the food, which starts from being a raw material until it reaches the consumer as a final product, which makes it harmful and unfit for human consumption. the workshop dealt with the sources of chemical pollutants of food and the problems and types of chemical pollutants, including food additives, industrial colorants, heavy metals, medical drugs, chemical pesticides and the need to add them in small quantities and remain among the components of food when ingested. the objectives of food additives, which are added intentionally or for foods to save from Pollution and biogeochemical factors of spoilage, enhance its nutritional value, to give the right texture to the product and improve it in terms of shape, color and taste.
The workshop dealt with preservatives, food additives, flavorings, antioxidants, colorants, texture enhancers, the main groups of these additives, cases where the use of food additives is prohibited, the health damage caused by them, industrial colorants and other recommendations.
