Overview of the Department of Medical Physics
The early beginnings of the medical physics specialization were in the academic year 2011-2012, with its practical component conducted in the laboratories of the College of Science across its various departments. The main goal of this specialization was to build a solid scientific foundation in medical physics for the graduates of the College of Science, expand their knowledge in this field, and thus have a positive impact on society. The faculty members also played a prominent role in improving the scientific situation in the city of Mosul by providing consultations and studies through collaborative mechanisms.
The department was established in the academic year 2011-2012 after obtaining all the official approvals required by the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Since its establishment, the main goal of the department and its faculty members has been to graduate researchers and qualified individuals with a solid scientific foundation in the field of medical physics, capable of working efficiently in their area of expertise.
The name of the Department of Life Physics was changed to the new name “Medical Physics” starting from the academic year 2022-2023, from the first stage onwards, according to the ministerial order numbered T M3/T/8795 dated 22/11/2021.
To achieve scientific integrity, the Department of Medical Physics has set a specific program for teaching solid curricula in the basic sciences, providing the graduates with a broad scientific foundation in the field of medical physics. In addition, general scientific and cultural courses are offered as supporting subjects for this specialization.
The number of graduating cohorts has reached (8) since its establishment, with the total number of graduates from the Department of Medical Physics so far being (250), including 114 male graduates and 136 female graduates.
