A Workshop at the College of Tourism Sciences on Intellectual Extremism

A scientific workshop entitled “Violent Intellectual Extremism from a Security Perspective” was held at the College of Tourism Sciences on Thursday, April 23, 2026. The workshop was delivered by an officer from the Iraqi National Security Service / Department of Intellectual Extremism.

The event was attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Manal Raafat Khalid, the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, the heads of academic departments, as well as faculty members and students.

The workshop addressed the concept of violent intellectual extremism, its main causes and motivations, as well as its negative impacts on the security and stability of society. It also highlighted the role of security institutions in monitoring and limiting extremist phenomena, in addition to emphasizing the importance of community awareness in preventing individuals from falling into extremist ideologies.

The workshop witnessed active engagement from attendees through discussions and questions. It emphasized the importance of cooperation between academic and security institutions to promote a culture of moderation and reject extremism. This aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), contributing to the promotion of a safe and sustainable environment.
