Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research Strengthens Its Extension and Training Role in Ninawa.

The Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research participated in delivering extension lectures as part of a professional training course entitled “The Use of Conservation Agriculture Practices for Forage Barley Production.” The course was organized by the Agricultural Extension Center in Ninawa in cooperation with the Directorate of Forests and Combating Desertification, and in coordination with the Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research. The training was conducted within the extension program “Forage Crop Seed Multiplication and Processing” and was held at the Agricultural Extension Center from 7 to 11 June 2026.

The Center’s extension lectures were delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Maan Mohammed Saleh and Assistant Lecturer Ammar Habib Mahmoud, researchers at the Center. The lectures addressed specialized topics related to conservation agriculture technologies and their practical application in forage barley production, highlighting their role in enhancing agricultural productivity and promoting the sustainable management of natural resources.

As part of the ongoing scientific and extension collaboration, the Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research also hosted a number of participants involved in activities organized by the Agricultural Extension and Training Center in Ninawa. The visit included a field tour of the Center’s experimental fields and research laboratories, where participants were introduced to the Center’s major research projects, particularly those focusing on improving crop productivity and implementing modern soil management and conservation practices.

The visit further provided participants with an overview of the role of research institutions in advancing the agricultural sector, especially in the fields of arid farming and conservation agriculture. Emphasis was placed on the importance of transferring modern technologies and utilizing scientific research outcomes to support sustainable agricultural development and address current environmental and production challenges.

This activity contributes to the achievement of several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:

SDG 2: Zero Hunger

SDG 4: Quality Education

SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production

SDG 13: Climate Action

SDG 15: Life on Land

SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals

Through strengthening extension services, capacity building, and scientific cooperation, the Center continues to play a vital role in supporting agricultural innovation, enhancing knowledge transfer, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices in Ninawa Province and beyond.
