“A Journey That May End in the Unknown”… Awareness Workshop Discusses the Dimensions of Illegal Immigration.

On Monday, June 22, 2026, AFCAR Center, in collaboration with the Studies and Planning Department / Sustainable Development Unit at the University of Mosul Presidency, held an awareness workshop titled “Illegal Immigration between Ambition and Risks.” The lectures were delivered by Assistant Lecturer Nada Younis Taher, as part of the center’s efforts to enhance community awareness of issues that affect young people and impact societal stability.
The workshop addressed the concept of illegal immigration, the reasons behind its spread, and the economic and social motives that drive some young people to undertake this risky experience. It also covered the dangers they may encounter during migration journeys, including exploitation, human trafficking, and exposure to security and legal risks.
The workshop witnessed discussions and interventions from the attendees, during which opinions and ideas were exchanged on ways to curb the phenomenon of illegal immigration and enhance community awareness of the importance of seeking legitimate and safe opportunities to achieve personal and professional aspirations.
The lectures of this workshop align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including: Goal 1 (No Poverty), Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), Goal 10 (Reduced Inequalities), Goal 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
