College of Archaeology Participates in Ministerial Conference

he College of Archaeology participated in the ministerial conference organized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, entitled “Knowledge Economy: Pioneering Universities and a Sustainable Economy.” The conference was hosted by the University of Baghdad in Al-Hakim Hall from April 14-15, 2026, with broad participation from Iraqi universities and several private sector partners.

The college was represented at this scientific event by Professor Dr. Yasmin Abdulkarim Mohammed Ali, Dean of the College and Head of the Expert Committee for Archaeology Colleges, and Assistant Professor Dr. Yasser Jaber, Associate Dean for Scientific Affairs. They were accompanied by Assistant Professor Dr. Haitham Qasim Mohammed, a faculty member in the Department of Archaeology. This participation comes within the framework of strengthening the college’s presence in scientific and national events that support academic development.

The first day of the conference included a speech by the Undersecretary of the Ministry for Scientific Affairs, who outlined the ministry’s vision for supporting innovation and enhancing the role of pioneering universities. This was followed by a dialogue session with the participation of several officials, including the Undersecretary of the Ministry for Scientific Research Affairs, the Advisor to the Prime Minister/Director of the Leadership and Excellence Directorate, the Director General of the Human Development Department at the Ministry of Planning, the Director General of the Research and Development Department, and the Director General of the Studies, Planning, and Follow-up Department. The program also included presentations of several outstanding success stories from various universities, in addition to an exhibition of patents.

The second day of the conference featured a workshop on entrepreneurship presented by the Research and Development Department, followed by another workshop on linking learning outcomes to labor market demands, presented by the Studies, Planning, and Follow-up Department.

The College of Archaeology’s participation stems from its ongoing commitment to actively contributing to national initiatives that integrate academic knowledge with practical applications, thereby supporting sustainable development and the transition to a knowledge-based economy.
