Dean of the College of Archaeology Participates in a Dialogue Session in Qayyarah

Professor Dr. Yasmin Abdul Karim Mohammed Ali, Dean of the College of Archaeology, participated in a specialized dialogue session organized by the Creativity Foundation for Human Rights. The session focused on discussing ways to rehabilitate and develop the “Black Palace” site in the Qayyarah district, with the aim of transforming it into a prominent heritage and tourist landmark in Nineveh Governorate.

The session was attended by Mr. Hisham Al-Hashemi (Mayor of Mosul District), Ms. Nadia Al-Jubouri (Member of the Nineveh Provincial Council), Mr. Ruwaid Al-Layla (Director of the Nineveh Antiquities and Heritage Inspectorate), Mr. Osama Shaher (Director of the Qayyarah District), and Sheikh Abdul Karim Al-Wagaa.

During the session, Dr. Ali presented the academic and scientific vision for the rehabilitation process, emphasizing the following points:

Historical Value: The importance of the Black Palace site as a cultural heritage that necessitates preserving its architectural identity during the restoration process. Academic Partnership: The role of the University of Mosul and the College of Archaeology in providing technical consultations and expertise to support heritage revitalization projects.

Tourism Development: The necessity of concerted efforts between executive and academic bodies to transform the archaeological sites in Qayyarah into attractive tourist destinations, thus serving the region’s economy.

The session concluded with practical recommendations, in which participants emphasized the importance of taking concrete steps to revitalize the site, acknowledging the role played by civil society organizations, such as the Creativity Foundation, in highlighting forgotten landmarks and advocating for the city’s heritage rights.
