Doctorate dissertation in the Department of English Language on Mood System in English and Arabic : A Contrastive Study.

The Department of English Language at the College of Arts held a viva for doctorate dissertation entitled “Mood System in English and Arabic : A Contrastive Study ,” on Thursday, September 14, 2023, in Ibn Al-Atheer hall at college of Arts with the attendance of the Dean’s assistant for scientific affairs, Prof. Dr. Hareth Hazim Ayoub along with a number of college and staff members.
The dissertation submitted by the student (Ahmed Amer Hussein Kharoofa ) in the Department of English Language, dealt with mood system in English and Arabic : A Contrastive Study.
The current study aims at giving a theoretical background and showing the different types of mood system in English and Arabic . It also aims at showing the similarities and differences between English and Arabic as much as mood system is concerned .
The study hypothesizes that mood system in Arabic is more complicated than in English and it is a property of the verb in Arabic which is traditionally the same as English .
The study concluded that mood system in Arabic is more complicated and different than in English . The only problem that the study faces is that in Arabic the mood system is achieved by certain forms (Indicative , Subjunctive , Emphatic , Imperative and Jussive) and particles which have different functions and meanings . To solve this problem , the study has explained each form and particle separately .
The viva committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Jassim Muhammad Hassan from Al-Hadbaa University College, and the membership of each of Prof. Dr. Abbas Fadel Lutfi from Salahaddin University, , Professor Dr. Nashwan Mustafa Salih from the College of Arts at the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Yassir Younis Abd Al-Wahid from the College of Arts at the University of Mosul and Professor Dr. Kamal Hazim Hussein from the College of Human Education at the University of Mosul, under the supervision and membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Marwan Najeeb Tawfiq from the College of Arts at the University of Mosul
