Cultural and Scientific Field Trip
On the occasion of the Yazidi New Year, which falls on the first Wednesday of April each year, and in an effort to maintain communication and build bridges of trust between the University of Mosul community and the local community—as well as to become more familiar with one of the important social and ethnic components of Iraqi society, particularly in Nineveh Province—a group of faculty members and students from the Department of Sociology, accompanied by Dr. Shalal Hamid Suleiman and Dr. Hassan Jassim Rashid, visited the Lalish Temple located in the Sheikhan District on Thursday, April 24, 2025.
During the visit, attendees listened to a detailed explanation provided by a Yazidi religious figure about the history and rituals of the Yazidi faith, as well as the cultural and historical significance of the Lalish Temple.
