Master’s Thesis on “Social Work and its Role in Working with Families of Cancer Patients: A Field Study in the City of Mosul”

The Department of Sociology at the College of Arts discussed a Master’s thesis titled “Social Work and its Role in Working with Families of Cancer Patients: A Field Study in the City of Mosul” on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. The session was attended by Professor Dr. Hatem Fahd Al-Tai, Dean of the College, Dr. Firas Abbas Fadhel, Head of the Department, and several faculty members.
The study, submitted by student Ali Talib Enad Ramadan in the Department of Sociology, addressed cancer and its profound impact on patients and their families from a social work perspective. The thesis aimed to ascertain the presence of social workers in the healthcare sector to assist families of patients in general, and specifically families of cancer patients. It also sought to identify the social, economic, and psychological problems faced by families of cancer patients in Mosul, and to explore the government’s role in providing support to cancer patients and their families.
