PhD Dissertation on “The Policy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Towards Internal Developments in Lebanon 1982-2008”

The Department of History at the College of Arts held a PhD dissertation defense on the topic of “The Policy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Towards Internal Developments in Lebanon 1982-2008” on Thursday, July 31, 2025. The defense was attended by Professor Dr. Ahmed Fakkak Al-Badrani, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities; Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul; Professor Dr. Hatem Fahd Al-Tai, Dean of the College; and several faculty members.
The study, presented by student Mohammed Ahmed Fakkak, examined Saudi policy towards the political and military developments in Lebanon. It covered the Saudi position on the 1982 Israeli war on Lebanon, Saudi diplomacy to end the civil war in 1989, Saudi policy toward the political and military developments in Lebanon between 1990 and 2000, the Saudi stance on the 2006 Israeli aggression on Lebanon, and the Kingdom’s policy toward the Lebanese political crisis of 2007-2008, which concluded with the signing of the Doha Agreement and the election of Michel Suleiman as President of the Lebanese Republic.
The dissertation aimed to analyze Saudi policy toward Lebanon’s internal events and developments, including political, military, and security affairs.
