In a critical exploration of contemporary literary criticism, its current achievements, and its future potential, the quarterly magazine “Iraqi Adib”—published by the General Union of Writers and Authors in Iraq—featured an interview with critic Dr. Mohammed Salem Saadallah in its second issue of 2025. Dr. Saadallah, a faculty member in the Arabic Language Department, discussed the state of modern Arabic criticism, focusing on its crises, pitfalls, challenges, and its accomplishments.

The interview also provided a forward-looking vision for the future of this field, suggesting potential solutions. Dr. Saadallah spoke about academic criticism and its evolution, the future of cognitive criticism, and the rich cultural, civilizational, and philosophical foundations that can help Arabic criticism develop its tools and update its methodologies.
