College of Arts

The Department of Translation at the College of Arts recently held a doctoral dissertation defense on “The Application of Operational Translation Norms in Rendering the Iraqi Constitution into English.” The defense took place on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, with Professor Dr. Hatem Fahd Al-Ta’i, Dean of the College, and Dr. Hala Khalid Najm, Head of the Department, in attendance, along with several faculty members.

The study, submitted by student Mahmoud Khudair Muhammad of the Translation Department, focused on applying operational translation norms to the English translation of the Iraqi Constitution. Its primary objective was to evaluate existing translations of the constitution based on Toury’s operational norms.
