PhD Dissertation Defense: “Investigating Pragmatic Equivalence in Audio-Visual Translation: Dubbing from English into Arabic”
The Department of Translation at the College of Arts held a PhD dissertation defense on Thursday, August 28, 2025. The dissertation, titled “Investigating Pragmatic Equivalence of Audio-Visual Translation: Dubbing from English into Arabic,” was presented by student Dhiaa Ahmed Abdullah Hussein. The defense was attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Hatem Fahd Al-Taie, and several faculty members.
The study explored the principle of pragmatic equivalence in dubbing films from English into Arabic. It specifically investigated how linguistic and cultural elements are preserved or modified during the translation process to ensure the intended meaning is conveyed to the target audience.
