College of Arts

Language at the College of Arts defended a doctoral dissertation titled “Kaji Muhammad Effendi’s Commentary (d. 1054 AH) on al-Fawa’id al-Diya’iyya: A Critical Edition and Study.” The defense was held on Sunday, September 21, 2025. In attendance were the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Hatem Fahd Al-Tai, the Head of the Department, Dr. Ahmed Salih Younis, and several members of the college’s faculty.

The study, submitted by the researcher Hassan Rashid Khidr Abbas, aimed to produce a critical edition of Kaji Muhammad Effendi’s commentary on al-Fawa’id al-Diya’iyya, which is itself a commentary on the text of al-Kafiyah. The research methodology involved collating three manuscripts, noting all instances of additions and omissions. The text of the commentary was transcribed using modern orthography, and all Quranic verses, prophetic hadiths, Arabic literary citations, and Turkish and Persian phrases were duly sourced. A comprehensive bibliography of sources and references was also compiled.
