Training Course Explores Islamic Arabic Literature from a Western Perspective

The Oriental Studies Unit at the College of Arts, in conjunction with the Continuing Education Unit, recently conducted a two-day training course (September 30th – October 1st) titled “Islamic Arabic Literature from a Western Perspective,” delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Faris Aziz Al-Mudarras and Assistant Lecturer Mahmoud Ahmed Barwari. The program was structured around two key thematic areas: first, a comparative analysis of the concept of literature across various cultures, emphasizing the distinctive characteristics of Arabic culture; and second, an examination of the image and reception of Arabic literature within Western scholarship, specifically investigating the methodology used by Western researchers to introduce and interpret this body of work to their societies and highlighting Arabic culture’s significant role in shaping their cultural awareness.
