The Critical Role of Biographical Literature in Contemporary Scholarship: A Symposium at the College of Arts

The Department of History at the College of Arts, University of Mosul, organized a scholarly symposium on Sunday, September 21, 2025, titled “Biographical Books, Their Importance in Contemporary Studies, and Methods of Their Sustained Utilization.”

The event took place in the College’s Al-Salam Hall, under the supervision of the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Hatem Fahd Hano Al-Tai, and the Head of the History Department, Professor Dr. Mahmoud Saleh Saeed.

A number of faculty members from the department contributed papers to the symposium, including: Dr. Nasser Abdul Razzaq, Dr. Abdul Qadir Ahmed, Dr. Muhammad Abdullah, Dr. Muhammad Ali Weis, Dr. Hana Salem, and Dr. Rana Salem. The session was chaired by Dr. Hashim Abdul Razzaq.

The symposium aimed to highlight the academic value of biographical literature (Kutub Al-Tarajim) as essential primary sources for re-reading history and employing them in contemporary studies, alongside discussing modern methods for their analysis and application.

The event concluded with a fruitful scholarly dialogue that emphasized the importance of sustaining research efforts in the field of specialized historical studies.
