On Sunday, December 28, 2025, the Department of Translation hosted an awareness workshop titled “The Hazards of Smoking and Its Health and Psychological Impacts on University Students.” The event took place at the department’s Model Hall.

The workshop was presented by Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Hammoud and Dr. Aws Adel Abdul Wahab. The session was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Professor Dr. Hatem Fahd Hano Al-Tai, the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, Professor Dr. Ammar Abdul Latif, and the Head of the Translation Department, Professor Dr. Hala Khalid Najim, alongside several faculty members and students.

The workshop addressed the multifaceted negative impacts of smoking, including associated diseases, financial losses, and its direct repercussions on mental health, academic performance, and the overall quality of education.

The session concluded with several key recommendations, most notably:

• Banning the sale of cigarettes within the university campus.

• Designating specific smoking areas far from academic buildings.

• Distributing and displaying awareness posters throughout the college.

• Encouraging and supporting students in their efforts to quit smoking.
