The Department of English at the College of Arts held a viva for a Master of Arts thesis entitled “Storytelling Structure in Mosuli Casual Conversations with Reference to English,” on September 02, 2021 at the department of History Hall. The thesis submitted by the student (Yousif Basim Fathallah) in the Department of English investigates the stories told by Mosuli speakers in conversation. In addition, the study seeks the variations in the structures of narratives by adopting Labov’s model (1972) of narrative analysis. The study hypothesizes that Mosuli narrators should apply specific strategy in order to present the stories properly. Additionally, the researcher assumes that various identities and gender difference affect the style of storytelling. The study concluded that the elements of Labov’s model are applied successfully through the structure of Mosuli storytelling. It also finds that there is huge influence of storytelling styles, the gender of narrators and various identities on showing the structures of storytelling. The viva’s committee was chaired by Professor Dr. Khaled Shaker Hussein at Dhi Qar University, and the membership of both Professor Dr. Salem Yahya Fathi and Dr. Huda Fadel Ismail, under the supervision and membership of Professor Dr. Nashwan Mustafa Salih.
