The Department of Information and Knowledge Techniques was established as one of the departments of the College of Arts – University of Mosul in the academic year 1994-1995 under the name (Department of Libraries and Information). The goals behind the establishment of this department were: working  to provide specialized staff in the field of libraries and information, prepare specialized researchers in the field of information and libraries, prepare teaching staff to work in library science departments and sing  the Iraqi and Arabic libraries.Through authorship, research, translation and technical consulting of libraries, information centers and related institutions, Exchanging training and technical expertise through cooperation and coordination with corresponding departments inside and outside Iraq.In 2004, its nomenclature changed and became (the Department of Information and Libraries). The Department continued to develop in a successive manner in its teaching methods and in updating its study and research decisions.Where it was opened.Postgraduate programme (master’s degree in the department since 2001, suspended after 2003 and resumed its reopening in 2008, Continuing to our current time,n line with scientific developments in the field, the section has been changed to the (Information and Knowledge Techniques Section)The current profiling is based on the fact that the field of knowledge and knowledge technologies is the most extensive and comprehensive, and that theLibraries are the centres of  Information in which they are present and the world’s knowledge of human civilization.The name of the graduates of this section has changed from library specialists to information specialists to open up new prospects for the graduates of the department to work in state institutions that search for any kind of information for the purpose of dealing and analysis and then retrieve it.
