Discussion of a master’s thesis in the College of Environmental Sciences and Technologies on the effect of molecular docking on the efficiency of some plant extracts…

In the presence of the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Qusay Kamal al-Din al-Ahmadi, and the Dean of the College, Dr. Yusra Majeed al-Shaker, a discussion took place this morning, Tuesday, December 12, 2023, of the master’s thesis by the student Abu Bakr Abdul Rahim al-Ghazal al-Ta’i for his thesis titled
“Application of molecular docking to test the efficacy of some plant extracts against some pathogenic species in different environments.” The discussion committee was chaired by Professor Dr. Amjad Abdul Hadi Muhammad Al-Tadisi at the College of Science at the University of Mosul, and the membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Ayman Muhammad Jabr and Assistant Professor Dr. Shaima Khalil Abdullah, and the membership and supervision of Professor Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim Khalil.

The study included the use of molecular docking technology for a group of well-known plants that were collected from herbal markets in the city of Mosul for the purpose of identifying the active substances present in them and the possibility of using them as an inhibitor of some pathogenic organisms. The purpose of this technology is to reduce time and resources by conducting experiments virtually with an accuracy rate exceeding 95%. Then apply the best of these hypothetical results on the ground.

The study aimed to apply molecular docking to detect and investigate active substances, find drug alternatives from the surrounding environment, especially available medicinal plants, and find the best substances that inhibit the Cyp51 protein in the fungus Candida albicans as drug alternatives, in addition to applying the results of molecular docking in the laboratory and testing the effectiveness of candidate materials as drug alternatives.
