A scientific visit for students of the Environmental Technology Department to the Mosul Dam projects..
Within the directives of the Dean of the College of Environmental Sciences, Dr. Yusra Majeed Al-Shaker, to support the educational process and under the supervision of the Head of the Environmental Technology Department, Dr. Ayad Fadil Al-Naama, and in continuation of the series of field activities that aim to enhance the theoretical aspect with the practical application aspect, second-stage students in the Environmental Technology Department conducted a scientific visit to the Mosul Dam projects and the dam’s power generation station, accompanied by an elite group of instructors and members of the department, on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.
The visit included reviewing the structure of the dam and the mechanisms for controlling the waters of the Tigris River and highlighting the environmental aspects related to the dam, such as its impact on the sustainability of water resources, sediment management, and the challenges associated with the problem of dissolving gypsum foundations that require continuous treatment to ensure the safety and stability of the dam.
The power generation station was also visited and the mechanism for generating electricity from hydropower was reviewed, and the role of the station in providing clean and sustainable energy to the region.
The visit aimed to introduce students to the environmental and engineering aspects of the Mosul Dam and Dam Power Plant projects.
