Discussion of a master’s thesis in the College of Environmental Sciences related to the study of chemical pollution in the waters of the Tigris River..

 

Under the supervision and attendance of the Dean of the College, Dr. Yusra Majeed Al-Shaker, a master’s thesis was discussed this morning, Monday, December 30, 2024, for the student Miad Suleiman Khader Al-Jabouri, on her thesis entitled “Study of chemical pollution of liquid discharges from some workshops and laboratories in the city of Mosul and their impact on the Tigris River” in the discussion hall of our college.

The discussion committee was headed by Professor Dr. Moaz Abdullah Najm and the membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Rahab Abdul-Jabbar Hamid and Assistant Professor Dr. Riyad Abdullah Fathi and the membership and supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Yusra Majeed Al-Shaker and Assistant Professor Dr. Mahmoud Ahmed Al-Fakhri.

The study included an assessment of the quality of the Tigris River water from its entry into the city of Mosul until its departure from it.

The study aimed to evaluate the Tigris River water from its entry into Mosul until its departure, and to show the extent to which the river water is affected by the industrial waste released, in addition to showing the safety of the Tigris River water and its suitability for drinking, as well as showing the extent to which the river water is affected by seasonal changes during the study period.

The study recommended spreading environmental awareness among the population, developing water treatment plants, as well as tightening government control over some individual and collective practices and imposing high financial fines and strict procedures to limit ill-considered actions that have a negative impact on the aquatic environment, in addition to monitoring the quality of river water through periodic studies and research and working on its recommendations.
