The third scientific symposium of the Department of Environmental Health on radioactive pollution and its impact on the environment has begun.

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, and under the supervision and attendance of Professor Dr. Muthanna Jassim Muhammad Al-Taie, Dean of the College of Environmental Sciences, the College of Environmental Sciences/Department of Environmental Health held the third scientific symposium entitled “The Effects of Radioactive Pollution on Environmental Elements” this morning, Wednesday, May 7, 2025, in cooperation with Al-Hadbaa University. The symposium was attended by Dr. Riyadh Abdullah Al-Taie, Assistant President of Al-Hadbaa University for Scientific Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Basil Khalaf Mahmoud, Head of the Academics Syndicate, prominent academic figures from various universities, and a large gathering of researchers and students.
The symposium included several lectures that explained the impact of electromagnetic radiation on the environment, animals, and plants, the effects of mobile communications and technological development on ecosystems and society, the varying effects of radiation on living and non-living organisms, methods of prevention, and legal legislation to reduce the risk of radioactive contamination.
The symposium aimed to highlight the importance of radioactive contamination and its impact on the environment and public health. It also presented the impact of radioactive contamination on humans and animals, the risks of developing serious diseases, including cancer and genetic changes in embryos, and its effects on food systems and the environment. It also discussed the most important recent scientific research in this field to develop effective and sustainable solutions to address the problems of radioactive contamination. It also highlighted the most important modern technologies used to protect workers and those exposed to radiation and ensure their safety from the radioactive materials used. It also highlighted the most important measures necessary to prevent the effects of radiation and increase citizen awareness of the laws in force regarding protection from the risk of radiation.
