The College of Environmental Sciences discusses a master’s thesis focusing on analyzing radioactive contamination levels in terrestrial vegetation.
Under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, and in the presence of the Dean of the College of Environmental Sciences, Professor Dr. Muthanna Jassim Al-Taie, and accompanied by the Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, Dr. Omar Idris Saleh Al-Maamari, the Master’s thesis defense in the Department of Environmental Sciences, entitled “Analysis of Radioactive Pollution Levels in the Terrestrial Vegetation Cover of Nineveh Governorate as an Indicator of Environmental Pollution,” was held this morning, Tuesday, September 9, 2025, in the discussion hall of the College of Petroleum and Mining Engineering. The thesis, presented by student Amna Qutaiba Muslim Al-Bakri, was held in the Department of Environmental Sciences. The defense was held in the discussion hall of the College of Petroleum and Mining Engineering.
The defense committee was chaired by Assistant Professor Dr. Ragheed Yousef Ghazal, and included Assistant Professor Dr. Iman Abdul-Moneim Al-Jawady and Assistant Professor Dr. Omar Karim Younis, under the supervision and membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Mazen Nizar Fadl and Assistant Professor Dr. Ayman Muhammad Jabr.
The research aims to study the potential sources of radioactive pollution, whether natural or resulting from human activities, and to identify areas that require protection and control measures. The study also achieved four Sustainable Development Goals: Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 13 (Climate Action), and Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).
At the end of the discussion, the Dean of the College of Environmental Sciences, Professor Dr. Muthanna Jassim Al-Taie, presented a letter of thanks and appreciation to Assistant Professor Dr. Ragheed Yousef Ghazal, University of Mosul/College of Education for Pure Sciences, in appreciation of his valuable comments and sound guidance.
