Workshop at the Faculty of Environmental Sciences

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, and the supervision of Professor Dr. Muthanna Jassim Mohammed Al-Tai, Dean of the College of Environmental Sciences, and in the presence of Dr. Mohammed Yahya Ali, Head of the Department of Environmental Health, the College of Environmental Sciences/Department of Environmental Health, in cooperation with the Iraqi Society for Biochemistry and Clinical Chemistry, held a scientific workshop entitled “Arab Chemistry Week” in the college’s discussion hall.
The workshop was presented by:

Lecturer Dr. Omar Idris Saleh
Lecturer Dr. Liqaa Saeed Abdullah. The workshop included a scientific presentation addressing the importance of chemistry in human life and its role in the fields of medicine, industry, energy, food, and the environment, with a focus on the clinical applications of biochemistry, such as blood and hormone analyses (glucose, urea, ALT, AST, CBC, prolactin) and pharmaceutical chemistry, which is considered one of the most important modern diagnostic tools in medicine.
The workshop also addressed the contributions of Arab scientists to the establishment and development of chemistry, and highlighted the connection of this science to the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly:
Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being
Goal 4: Quality Education
Goal 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
The workshop emphasized that chemistry is not merely equations and reactions, but a language that connects science to life and a fundamental driver of health and economic progress in society. It further stated that celebrating Arab Chemistry Week underscores the role of Arab universities in disseminating scientific culture and promoting research and innovation to serve humanity and the environment.
