Seminar in the Department of Environmental Technologies

Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Environmental Sciences, Dr. Muthanna Jassim Al-Tai, and with the attendance of the Head of the Department of Environmental Technologies, Dr. Hazem Jumaa Mahmoud, a seminar entitled “Genetic Toxicity” was held in the Department of Environmental Technologies. The seminar was presented by Dr. Mayada Ahmed Ibrahim, a faculty member in the department.
The seminar included an introduction to the term “genetic toxicity,” which refers to one of the most significant long-term chronic effects of various types of environmental pollutants, both natural and man-made. It also covered the different types of genetic toxicity based on their effects, such as carcinogenicity, mutagenicity, or causing birth defects. The seminar further discussed the diagnostic tests used, such as gene mutation detection and chromosomal damage analysis using the mitotic function. This topic is of paramount importance due to its serious effects on the environment and human health, which are not always immediately apparent. This underscores the importance of prevention and ongoing research in this field.
